M. Ruth Shand

M. Ruth (Smith) Shand passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in E. Norriton, PA. She was 86. Mrs. Shand was a resident of King of Prussia, PA. She worked as a vice-president for the former Philadelphia National Bank, until her retirement in 1992. Ruth was a member of the American Institute of Banking, and an active member of the Upper Merion Senior Service Center where she was a Board Member. She was a past president of the Upper Merion Chapter of the American Cancer Society and once received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Ruth’s favorite thing was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 30, 1929, she was a daughter of the late George J. and Emily Ethel (Wilkinson) Smith. She was the wife of the late William J. Shand, who died in 1988. Surviving is her loving family including two sons, Robert S. (Jacqueline) Shand of Cutler Bay, FL and Jeffrey R. Shand (Kate Gauthier) of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Cynthia L. (Daniel) Eastman of King of Prussia, PA and Beverly T. Shand of W. Norriton, PA; four grandchildren: Todd, Naila, Ryan & Matthew; five great-grandchildren: Shaylan, Nicholas, DeJa, William and Stella; a sister, Joan F. (Jack) Janof of Philadelphia, PA; and many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by a sister, E. Naomi Lenker. Ruth’s Funeral Service will be held at The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:30 am. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:20 am, at the funeral home. Interment will be private in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Merion Senior Service Center, 650 S.
