Robert “Bob” J. Peel Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at his home in Wayne, PA. He was 84. Mr. Peel was a graduate of Darby High School, Class of 1955 where he played baseball. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Drexel Institute of Technology. Bob worked as an aerospace engineer for the former General Electric Company in Valley Forge, PA and Schenectady, NY. He returned to this area and retired from Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia, PA in 1996. A highlight of his career was working at Kennedy Space Center on the launch pad of the Space Shuttle Challenger. Bob was a member of Valley Forge Presbyterian Church in King of Prussia, where he was an elder and deacon and he also chaired many church events. He was very involved in youth sports and managed his sons baseball teams and they were always winners. When his son, Ron was 12 years old they were Babe Ruth Pennsylvania State Champions. Bob was commissioner for the Upper Merion Youth Baseball League for many years. In the 1960’s, he was a member of the Springfield Fire Company and drove the ambulance. Bob and Joanne, the love of his life, were married for 59 ½ years. They did extensive traveling and spent their winters in South Carolina and Florida where they always had their family visit. His family meant so much to him and in return they loved him. Bob was born on September 17, 1937 in Shenandoah, PA and was raised in Darby, PA. He was a son of the late Clarence L. Peel and Mae Ann (Bartel) Peel-Schwenke. Surviving is his loving family including his wife, Joanne (McGill) Peel; a daughter, Karen L. Miller and her husband, Brian; a son, Ronald A. Peel; six grandchildren: Emily Peel Ruoff and her husband, Andrew, Robert James Peel III and his wife, Melanie, Timothy Peel, Blake, Jace and Kira Miller; 2 great-grandchildren, Lyla and Ivy Ruoff; brother, Donald Peel and his wife, Janet; sister, Audrey L. Greco; daughter-in-law, Ann Peel; a very special niece granddaughter, Kristin Hill; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Peel, Jr.; and a brother, Edward Peel. Relatives and friends are invited to Bob’s viewing at Valley Forge Presbyterian Church, 191 Town Center Road, King of Prussia, PA on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 10 to 11:15 am; with his Funeral Service starting at 11:30 am. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
