Alfred C. "Al" Schneider Jr.

July 10, 1936 — February 1, 2023

Alfred “Al” Clemond Schneider, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Paoli Hospital in Paoli, PA. He was 86. Al was a resident of King of Prussia, PA and a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was an Educator of Industrial Art, receiving a Bachelors in Education from Millersville State College, and his Masters of Education from Trenton State School. Al was a teacher for the Upper Merion School District for 6 years, then continued in Plymouth Whitemarsh School District for 22 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1952 to 1957. He served aboard the newly commissioned aircraft carrier USS Forrestal CVA-59, first crew of the first “super carriers”, earning the status of Plank Owner. Al enjoyed the ships first deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. He was an Engineering Department Pipe Fitter and performed with the ships band.

Born in Lancaster, PA on July 10, 1936, son of Mable L. (Wright) and Alfred C. Schneider, Sr. Throughout his life Al enjoyed many hobbies and interests. In recent years, he volunteered for maintenance work aboard the USS New Jersey Battleship BB62 Museum in Camden, NJ and manning the battleship display at the Reading air show, WW II reenactments/D-Day commemorations. He was an antique car enthusiast having memberships with North Penn Model A Club, and Antique Automobile Clubs of America, Valley Forge Chapter; he experienced many road trips, parades, and car shows.

Surviving are his loving family including his wife of 66 years, Barbara E. (Binkle) Schneider; two sons, Alfred C. Schneider, III of Norristown, PA and James M. Schneider (Alicia) of Wilmington, CA; a daughter, Margaret B. Schneider Culp (David) of Schwenksville, PA; six grandchildren: Jedidiah, Nathan and Joshua Stalker, Caitlyn Schneider, Lauren Gonzalez and Samantha Culp; 8 great-grandchildren: Beatrice, Lucy, Jane, Malachi, Eleanor, Adrianna, Liam and Noah; a sister, Rose Krammes; and many other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his sister, Doris Moyer.

Al’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 132 E. Valley Forge Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 9 to 10 am, with his Funeral Service starting at 10:00 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Al’s memory to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 132 E. Valley Forge Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406.
