Listen to Obituary

Anna Pignataro, 91, of Astoria, NY passed away peacefully April 10, 2026. Anna was the beloved daughter of Filomena Masi and Nunziante Pignataro, and the loving sister to Marie Buzzeo. She became a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, spanning three generations, and was a devoted presence in the lives of her family and friends.

Anna loved listening to music, singing, watching movies, and especially engaging with family and friends. She had an excellent sense of organization, as her many CDs were placed in a specific order, which she always maintained with great attention. She occasionally used her tablet to play some online games, enjoyed working on puzzles, and playing Old Maid, especially when her older sister ended up with the losing card! She also diligently completed an art project, which the family framed.

Anna found great joy in nature, from watching birds splashing around in the backyard birdbath to following the birth of baby doves, in a flower box outside her bedroom window. She followed the whole process with amazement and joy, as the dove parents took turns feeding their offspring.

In her younger years, Anna was an enthusiastic traveler, enjoying trips to Italy, Florida, Disney World (to name just a few) and many cruises with her sister and family. Always very social, Anna was quick to engage in conversation and always offered interesting insights into what was going on around her.

Anna's favorite foods included pasta of all kinds, broccoli rape with cannellini beans, spare ribs, salad, soups, and anything with potatoes. She had a legendary sweet tooth with a particular love for desserts of all kinds. Her favorites included all things chocolate, and of course, ice cream!

Family was the center of Anna's life. She kept a vigilant eye on her older sister, especially as they both entered their 90's, and she was an encouraging, enthusiastic presence as an aunt, sister, cousin, and friend. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all.
