Anthony Joseph "Joe" Abbruzzi, Jr.

December 15, 1942 — September 22, 2024

Anthony Joseph “Joe” Abbruzzi, Jr passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at his daughter’s residence in Gulph Mills, PA. He was 81. Joe was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Gulph Mills and was an US Army Veteran.

Born on December 15, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Claire G. (Stewart) and Anthony J. Abbruzzi, MD.

Joe was the beloved husband of Sara “Sally” (Shoemaker); proud father of Anthony J. Abbruzzi, DO (Alyson Emmons), David M. Abbruzzi, and Sara A. Abbruzzi, D.O. (John Kuesel); grandfather of Julianna, Katie, Alex, and Lily Abbruzzi; brother of William S. Abbruzzi, PhD and Janie C. Smith; and many other loving family members.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joe attended St Joseph Prepatory and eventually graduated from Bonner High School in Delware County. He went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s University and began his career in sales. He met Sally, his wife of 57 years, while working at Philco Finance. He was asked to give her a ride for a work physical and the rest is history. Joe yearned to be his own boss and eventually opened 3 Army-Navy stores and various other retail businesses. He had a work ethic like no other and rarely took a day off. In fact, he worked throughout his entire illness. He was devoted to his family and showed up at the drop of a hat when they needed him. In his spare time, Joe could be found working tirelessly on his pool or watching his Philadelphia Eagles. But it was his personality that most people will remember. Joe lit up a room. He made friends everywhere he went. He was the life of the party and made everyone laugh. He was generous. He was kind. To know him was to love him. He was eternally positive and could often be heard saying, even on his final days, “let’s see what happens.”

In his honor, his family will be having a Celebration of Life at his daughter’s home on Saturday October 26th at 4pm. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to Trinity Church, Gulph Mills PA.

Arrangements are by The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Bridgeport, PA.
