Anthony George Tirendi, Jr. Tony Tirendi (Pop, PapaT, Mr. T), 79, of Philadelphia, PA passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020. Tony was born in Philadelphia on August 11, 1941. Beloved son to the late Mary Rita (Ruane) and Anthony George Tirendi, Sr. Beloved father to his two sons Tony (Sandy), and Tim (Jacqueline). Beloved grandfather to Gabrielle, Stella, and Nina. He was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Pannella (Lou). He is survived by his sister, Ginger Lorman and his brother, Lewis Tirendi. He was a member of Maternity B.V.M Catholic Church in Philadelphia, PA. Tony grew up in the Swampoodle area of Philly and attended Corpus Christi Parish. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1960 where he played Basketball, Football, & Baseball. He was the husband of Ellen (Cleary) Tirendi. They married in 1962 and moved to Hardy Road in the Bustleton section of Philly in 1969 where he currently lived. He worked as a Tastykake Salesman for over 40 years. Making deliveries to local stores in the N.E. Philly area and made many friends over the years. Serving stores such as Reen’s Deli and Archbishop Ryan High School. He loved his dog Katie, going to the gym, shooting hoops, playing softball, spending time in his backyard, and being with his family and friends. Pop was a selfless man who spent his entire life doing everything for his family. He was very proud of both his sons and loved to talk about them to others. He loved his daughter in-laws, Sandy & Jacqueline, like they were his own daughters. He loved Ellen who was the one and only love of his life. He was free spirited and young at heart who was loved by everyone. He also developed a special bond with his son’s friends who he was known as Mr. T. “PapaT” loved his 3 grandchildren more then anything in the world. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s activities such as softball, soccer, gymnastics, basketball, and equestrian events. He spent time teaching them different skills and cheered them on at their games or events. He had a very special bond with them and had a special goodbye greeting with them. He called them his “Little Chickadees”. He will be missed forever. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Sunday, August 30th, 2020 from 2 pm to 4 pm followed by a Religious Service at 4 PM All services will be held at: DiGiacomo Funeral Home 1055 Southampton Road Philadelphia, PA, 19116 While in the funeral home masks are required and please observe social distancing of 6 feet. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Ivy Hill Therapeutic Equestrian Center in Perkasie (www.ivyhillequestrian.org) or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
