Anthony J. “Chuck” Volpi Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at the Coatesville VA Medical Center Hospice in Coatesville, PA. He was 93. Mr. Volpi was a resident of King of Prussia, PA. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, both in Bridgeport, PA. Chuck was a premier builder all of his life, retiring in 2006. He was on the Board of Supervisors in Upper Merion for over 25 years. While on the board, he helped acquire the Nor-View Farm, the remainder of the farm on the corner of Ross and Henderson Roads for township use, and acreages for Heuser Park, which lead to many wonderful things for the community. Chuck was also the past president of the Upper Merion Senior Center, and a member of the VFW 7878 in Valley Forge, PA. Chuck was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving as a Platoon Sergeant. He received numerous awards for bravery and valor including: a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, WW II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the European/African/Middle Eastern medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was part of the D-day Normandy invasion and fought in the battle of the Bulge, where he risked his own life to save his troops. Born in Narberth, PA on September 5, 1922, he was a son of the late Arturo and Giovanna (DeMarco) Volpi. Chuck was the husband of the late Bernadette R. (Foley) Volpi, who died in 2014. Surviving is his loving family including 3 sons: Anthony J. Volpi, Jr. of Voorhees, NJ, Mark A. Volpi of King of Prussia, PA and William A. Volpi and his spouse, Edward Bradley, of Brooklyn, NY; a daughter, Bernadette T. Weis and her husband, John, of Collegeville, PA; 4 grandchildren: Eileen “Sissy”, Anthony J. III, Richard and Nicholas; 2 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Makenzie; a brother, Dino J. Volpi, Sr. and his wife, Ruth, of King of Prussia, PA; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Volpi and a sister, Irma Volpi. Relatives and friends are invited to Chuck’s Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St., Bridgeport, PA on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:00 am. His viewings will be Thursday night from 6 to 8pm, at The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St., Bridgeport PA; and Friday morning from 9 to 9:50am, at the church. Interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, King of Prussia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chuck’s memory may be mailed to the Coatesville VA Medical Center Voluntary Services, 1400 Black Horse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320.
