Antonio Bono

November 26, 1929 — April 16, 2015

Antonio Vito Bono, known as Tony to family and friends, passed peacefully in his sleep on April 16, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. He was 85 years old and resided in Audubon, Pa. He was born to the late Michael and Mary (Chicala) Bono in Norristown, Pa. on Nov. 26, 1929.    Tony joined the Navy in 1946 where he served as a radioman 3rd class; sailing both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He was a crew member aboard the naval destroyer warship, the USS Ernest G. Small.  During peacetime, the ship cruised both the Caribbean and Mediterranean oceans where he had the opportunity to visit his father's homeland of Italy. Due to the Korean conflict, his tour was extended until 1952.   On January 17, 1953, Tony married the love of his life, Clara A. Steffanelli (deceased.)    Tony spent 15 years at Phoenix Iron in Phoenixville as a welder. He then joined his brother Mike at RCA in Camden, where he worked as an electronic technologist while attending night school to earn an associate’s degree in electrical engineering. With that degree, he became an electronics technician at General Electric, where he retired after 31 years. He had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed reading the newspaper in his sun-room. He loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren. Tony was a masterful storyteller and spent a lot of his free time doing research on his computer and playing the online slot machines at night.    Tony is survived by his 3 loving children- sons Antonio V. Bono Jr and Michael A. Bono and daughter Andrea D. Dykty; grandchildren Antonio V. Bono III, Dana M. McCann, Gregory M. Dykty and David Vaughn; and great grandchildren Christian Bono, Maddie & Miles Vaughn and Adeline McCann.   He was one of 5 brothers and sisters. Preceded in death by Gregory Bono, Angeline Angello and Phyllis Bellito and survived by Augustus and Michael Bono.    Services to celebrate his Life will be held 11a.m. on Tuesday, April 21st at Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home 101 N. Park Ave. (Rt. 363 Trooper) Norristown, Pa. Friends and Family are invited to attend a viewing from 10:00-11:00 at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens. Services to celebrate his Life will be held 11a.m. on Tuesday, April 21st at Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home 101 N. Park Ave. (Rt. 363 Trooper) Norristown, Pa. Friends and Family are invited to attend a viewing from 10:00-11:00 at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens.
