Antonio R. Montes Otero

Antonio R. Montes Otero passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in E. Norriton, PA. He was 74. Mr. Montes Otero was a resident of King of Prussia, PA. He worked in the men's department for Bamberger's, Abraham and Strauss, and Macy's Department Stores in the King of Prussia Plaza for 25 years, and formerly worked as a history, math, and physical education teacher in Puerto Rico. Antonio was also an Olympic Judo coach for the 1976 Montreal Olympics for Puerto Rico. He was a member of Upper Merion Baptist Church in King of Prussia. Antonio was involved in the Boy Scouts for over 23 years and was an Eagle Scout Master. He loved watching movies and listening to opera and classical music. He also enjoyed talking about his favorite sports teams, the NY Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on May 5, 1940, he was a son of the late Jesús A. and Aurea (Otero) Montes. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 49 years, Nereida (Mercado) Montes; three sons: Antonio R. (Teresa) Montes II of Pottstown, PA, Carlos R. (Erica) Montes of Easton, PA and José R. (Tara) Montes of Newburgh, NY; a daughter, Inger J. (José) Rivera of King of Prussia, PA; eight grandchildren: Joshua, Scarlett, Chloe, Alexandra, Nettie, Jacob, Alex and Sammy; a sister, Sonia (Eduardo) Viñas of Puerto Rico; two nieces, Sonia and Petra Viñas; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesús and Wilfredo Montes; and a sister, Hilda Montes. Relatives and friends are invited to Antonio's Funeral Service at Upper Merion Baptist Church, 585 General Steuben Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 5:00 pm. Officiating will be the Rev. Kathryn Eagles, pastor.
