On Feb.19th, 2022, Gus arrived at his final destination. He was joined together with his loving parents Denis G. and Nellie (nee Bray). Predeceased by brothers; Rev. Dennis G. Murphy, O.S.F.S. and James A. Murphy. Gus was the husband of the late Margaret nee (Vecchione) with whom he parented 6 children. Peggy, Patti, Dinky, Dennis, Timothy (Brenda) and Franny (Tom) Paynter. His family extends 3 generations with a host of Grand, Great and Great- Great grandchildren left to share a story about their Pops Legacy. Dad was the son of Irish immigrants, Denis and Nellie Murphy! As a youngster, along with his brothers and parents, found themselves living at a home, built for the care takers of St. Vincent’s Home, in Tacony. This is where Dad collected 90 years of memories and a great fondness to be from Tacony! He learned a great work ethic and a deep devotion for his Catholic Faith. He witnessed poverty and lived all his life, just with the basics! From shining shoes to joining the service, he never forgot where he came from! Dad loved to hunt, fish, play football and loved his beer! Coaching for Tacony PAL was one of his proudest times! He took a bunch of scrappy, little boys, who didn't have proper equipment or uniforms to beat an Elite S. Philly Team, (EOM) for the Championship, not to mention, his son, Timmy, was the star Q.B.! Dad was so smitten and this story we heard a million times over! As years passed on, he moved to N.J. enjoying fishing and boating! Fast forward to him obtaining a Captains License! He never was still! At the age of 87 and multiple operations and serious health issues you would drive by in the spring and he'd be on his tractor, cutting his lawn! A big wave of the arm would follow the sounds of the cars and trucks flying by! The virus, plus pneumonia, took its toll on him and he no longer could be left to care for himself! My brother, Tim and his Wife, Brenda, collected our father, to reside with them until his peaceful passing! With this being said, we welcome you to celebrate, Mr. Augustine J. Murphy's Life Journey with his family at St. Dominic's Church at 8504 Frankford Ave. Phila. PA. 19136 on Friday, Feb.25, 2022 beginning from 9 AM until 9:50 AM. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM. Burial is at St. Dominic's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a small donation to St. Jude's Hospital for Children would be appreciated by going to www.stjude.org. Services entrusted to the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home, Jenkintown, PA.
