Barbara A. Bird

Barbara A. (Almy) Bird passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. She was 88. Barbara was a resident of Limerick, PA and was previously of King of Prussia, PA. She graduated from Darien High School, Class of 1948 and Centenary Jr. College in 1950. Barbara worked as a secretary for the Shellmar-Betner Division of the Continental Can Company. She was a member of the former St. Augustine R.C. Church in Bridgeport, PA. Barbara loved cats, reading, bowling, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, collecting Jim Shore figurines and Boyd’s Bears, and doing all kinds of artistic things, especially crafting and shopping for crafts. She was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and enjoyed seeing them win the Super Bowl. Most of all, Barbara loved her family and helped raise four of her grandchildren. Born in Stamford, Conneticut on July 28, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Lionel King Almy and Edna Hazel (Goulden) Almy. She was the wife of the late H. Wesley Bird, Jr., who died in 1998. Surviving is her loving family including a daughter, Evelyn L. (& Jesse) Martinez; 3 sons: Christopher R. (& Alberta) Bird, Philip H. Bird and Douglas M. (& Tee) Bird; 7 grandchildren: Brandy, Amy, Michela, Jason, Amber, Erica and Dean; 6 great-grandchildren: Zachary, Emma, Nathan, Connor, Caitlin and Henry “Hank”; and many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah A. Chudy. Relatives and friends are invited to Barbara’s viewing at St. Teresa of Calcutta Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 9 to 10:15 am, with her Funeral Mass starting at 10:30 am. Interment will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
