Calvin L. Ammon

Calvin Leroy Ammon, 86, passed away peaceably on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Keystone House Hospice in Wyndmoor. Born in Elverson on July 9, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Edith (Wary) Ammon. He was married for over sixty years to the late Norma Jane (Greul) Ammon, the love of his life. He also loved the great outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Lycoming County, PA and the Delaware shore were two of his favorite places, though nothing could beat home sweet home. Other passions included bowling, shooting darts, pitching horseshoes and playing cards and backgammon. He was a loyal fan of the Phillies, Jeff Gordon, and Penn State and Eagles football. Country and Western was his music of choice. Cherished friends and family bestowed lasting nicknames to him, including Dody, Buddy and Cowboy. He was also quite proud to be called Hubby, Dad, Uncle Dody, Pop-Pop and Pop-Pop-Pop. A graduate of Spring City High School, Class of 1944, he worked for decades in the lab at B.F. Goodrich in Oaks. Calvin is survived by daughter Bonnie Herr (Geoff) of Lancaster and son Randy (Bette) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; four grandkids Christopher, Gabe, Cal and Katie; and three great-grandsons Noah, Logan and Max. He was preceded in death by older brother Harold, but younger brothers and poker buddies Dick and Lou are still alive and kicking. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Sylvia, Pat and Sophia, and many fine nieces, nephews, cousins and other kin. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service at Spzindor-Meyers Funeral Home, 101 N. Park Avenue, Trooper (Rt.363 Norristown) on Saturday, February 2: viewing at 9 a.m., funeral at 10 a.m. Internment will follow at Limerick Garden of Memories.
