Carmen M. Desanto

Carmen M. DeSanto passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Bridgeport, PA. He was 88. Mr. DeSanto worked as a machinist for the Bud Company in Bridgeport, PA for 35 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bridgeport, PA. Carmen was a member of the Triple ‘S' Club and the former VFW Post, both in Bridgeport, PA. He was an avid Penn State fan who loved watching all their games.Mr. DeSanto was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving from 1943 to 1946 with the 3rd Infantry Division. He was one of the first soldiers in his allied unit to enter Berchtesgaden, also known as Hitler's castle in 1945. Carmen was awarded a Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, 4 Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead and a Distinguished Unit Badge.Born Bridgeport, PA on July 14, 1920, he was a son of the late John and Assunta(Sabatino) DeSanto. Surviving are his loving family including his wife of 60 years, Carmella "Cora" (Borzelleca) DeSanto; a son, Carmen A. DeSanto and his wife, Theresa of Bridgeport, PA; a daughter, Suzanne Woodward and her husband, Douglas of Audubon, PA; five grandchildren: Carmen Jr., Kelly, Christopher, Heather and Zachary; two great-grandsons, Jared and Nicholas; a sister, Margaret Coffman of Daytona , FL; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald DeSanto; 2 brothers, Ernest and Anthony; and 3 sisters, Anna Ritrovato, Rose Bontempo and Mary Frangiosa. Relatives & friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 502 Ford St. Bridgeport, PA on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 10:00am.His viewings are Monday evening from 7 to 8:30pm, at The Bacchi-Courtney Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St., (Rt. 202) Bridgeport, PA 19405 and Tuesday morning from 9 to 9:50am, at the church.
