Catherine F. "Aunt Kate" (Moshtuk) Maslayak passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Mercy Suburban Hospital in E. Norriton, PA. She was 92. Mrs. Maslayak was a resident of Bridgeport, PA. Kate was an original ‘Rosie the Riveter' at Brewsters Aircraft in Warminster, PA, where she met her husband, Michael, who was her supervisor. She also worked at the former companies of: Hosey's Textile, Holter Scientific and Johnson & Johnson, all in Bridgeport, PA and Extra Corporeal in Conshohocken, PA. Her last position was working as a Quality Control inspector for 30 years.Kate was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bridgeport, PA, where she was a member of the Young Ladies Sodality, Church Choir and Ladies Auxiliary. She led their catering efforts in the early days of the church. Kate was very active as an officer in the Bridgeport School District's PTA. She was an avid gardener and loved to crochet, cook and can pickles and preserves. She was well known in her community as a loving caregiver who was always willing to help any of her neighbors in need. Kate loved to relax by reading books at her vacation home in Blackwell, PA, along the Pine Creek. She especially enjoyed visits by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Newark, NJ on May 13, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Karpo and Mary (Macelak) Moshtuk. She was the wife of the late Michael Maslayak, who died in 1991. Surviving is her loving family including a daughter, Mary Irene Maslayak and her husband, Lloyd Michaels of Bridgeport, PA; 3 sons: Michael J. Maslayak and his wife, Janet of Greenboro, GA, John C. Maslayak of Bridgeport, PA and William P. Maslayak of Bridgeport, PA; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Joseph Plisiewicz; and a niece, Virginia "Gina" Plisiewicz. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Plisiewicz and nephew, Robert Plisiewicz. Relatives and friends are invited to Kate's Divine Liturgy at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10:00 am. Officiating will be Msgr. Dr. Ronald Popivchak, Pastor. Her viewings will be Sunday evening from 6 to 8pm, and Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:20am, both at The Bacchi Funeral Home and Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405. Parastas will be Sunday evening at 7:00 pm and Panakhyda will be Monday morning at 9:20 am, both at the funeral home. Interment in SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Cemetery, King of Prussia.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kate's memory to the Ladies Auxiliary of SS.
