Charles Andrew Brennen, 79, of Philadelphia, PA passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 peacefully, at Kindred Hospital, in Philadelphia. Charles was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 22, 1937, a son of the late Anna Flynn and Thomas Brennen. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Ranger from 1956-1960. He was a Police Detective in the City of Philadelphia for 26 years and then as a Non-Teaching Assistant with the School District of Philadelphia (Bridesburg Elementary, Pollack Elementary and Frankford High School) for 20 years. Charles was a graduate of North Catholic High School and St. Leo the Great Elementary. He was an Avid fan of the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles, even when they were losing. Charles was always ready to talk sports and sports history. He loved fishing in Pennypack and when Rita, his granddaughter, was old enough they would go fishing together. As a teen and young adult he played football and basketball and received a bronze medal for field and track for North Catholic. On the Police Force he was part of the interdepartmental baseball team. He enjoyed walking, although the last few years were curtailed due to wounds on his feet. He was the husband of Mary (King) Brennen for 54 years; he fell in love with Mary King on a blind date at a picnic in 1961. He was a member of Our Lady of Ransom Philadelphia, PA 19149. Charles is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter’s Kathleen and Eileen, granddaughter Rita and great granddaughter Elaina, nephew Leon Sachkar, a niece Marianne Twers and many great nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing from 9 to 9:50 AM and to celebrate a funeral mass at 10 AM on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Our Lady of Ransom Church 6129 Calvert St. in Philadelphia, PA 19149. His interment will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA.
