Charles E. (Chubby) Obrecht, 81, of Willow Grove, formerly of Elkins Park and Pocono Pines, passed away at his residence on December 23, 2018, surrounded by his family. Charles was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 9, 1937, son of the late Catherine M. (Bohnenberger) and Charles E. Obrecht, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth (nee Estill); his children Sharon Cartlidge (Bill), Charles (Beth), and Edward; his grandchildren Lauren, Charlie, Sara, Madison and Nicole; his brothers William and Robert, and sister Sue (Bob) Page. He will also be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, and many friends and colleagues. Chub enlisted and served with honor in the United States Army. He spent his career of 33 years working in PECO’s Gas Division, before retiring in 1995. He was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 63 years for Elkins Park Fire Company, and served as Chief Engineer and Secretary/Treasurer for the fire company. Chubby was a devoted family man who enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golfing, and following Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies. He was known to many in the community as Mr. Fix-It, always willing to lend a helping hand. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, December 27th at the Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home, 507 West Ave., Jenkintown, PA. A brief viewing will be held 10 to 11:15 AM on Friday, December 28th, at Elkins Park Presbyterian Church, 234 Cedar Rd., Elkins Park, followed by a service at 11:30. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Abington, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elkins Park Fire Company. Condolences may be made at www.mcgoldrickfh.com
