Charles Edward Gassen, Sr.

Charles Edward Gassen Sr. passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, PA. He was 79. Mr. Gassen was a resident of Bridgeport PA. He worked as a crane operator for the former Valley Forge Cement Co., a laborer for Bardetto Oxygen Co., and then as a van driver and maintenance man for Bridgeport Family Practice. Charles was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bridgeport, PA, where he was the church sexton for many years and an annual feast worker. He was also a member of Bridgeport Fire Co. #1 and Goodwill Fire Co. in Bridgeport. He was a life member of George Clay Vol. Fire Co. in W. Conshohocken. Mr. Gassen was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1953 to 1955.Born in Conshohocken, PA on June 23, 1932, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Isabella (Dundon) Gassen. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 60 years, Rosemarie B. (Busciacco) Gassen; 4 sons: Bruce C. Gassen of Atlantic City, NJ, Barry T. Gassen of Brigantine, NJ, Brian L. Gassen of Bridgeport, PA and Brad J. Gassen and his wife, Denise, of Bridgeport, PA; a daughter, Beverly I. Mattioli of Bridgeport, PA; 7 grandchildren: Barry Jr., Christopher, Amy, Kelly, Kevin and his wife, Tia, and Dash Gassen and Nicole Mattioli; 11 great-grandchildren: Patricia, Michele, Sammy, Jasmine, Nik, Gage, Kevin Jr., Alexis, Chloe, Aubrey and Trinity; a sister, Margaret Reed of Harleysville, PA; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Vincent and Charles "Chad" Jr.; a brother, Jimmy Smith; and a sister, Ann Tarr.Relatives & friends are invited to Charles' Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 502 Ford St., Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 10:30 am. His viewing is Monday morning from 9 to 10:20 am, at the church.
