Charles P. Hertzog, Jr. (Charlie) passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 68. Charlie was a resident of King of Prussia, PA. Born at Valley Forge Military Hospital in Phoenixville, PA on October 12, 1949, he was a son of the late Charles P. Hertzog, Sr. and Mary (Termine) Hertzog. During the Vietnam Era, Charlie served as a Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corps. He was a history aficionado, with a special interest in the Civil War and Gettysburg. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains, camping. At home, he watched cooking shows and was an excellent chef. Moreover, Charlie was involved with politics as a member of the Montgomery County Democratic Committee. His true passions, however, were his Catholic faith, watching movies, listening to music from the 1950s and 60s, and reading thriller novels. While Charlie had many hobbies, his commitment to family and friends transcended all else. He invited everyone into his home; his house was a revolving door of guests, some just for a meal and some for much longer. To remember Charlie is to think of a man with a quiet manner and a sweet, welcoming smile. Charlie is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 36 years, Carol A. (Huston) Hertzog; 3 sons, Charles P. Hertzog, III and his wife, Jennifer, of Pottstown, PA, Joseph Scott Hertzog and his wife, Reneé, of Mont Clare, PA, and Mark Richard Hertzog, Sr. of King of Prussia, PA; two daughters, Christine M. Curcie and her husband, Adam, of King of Prussia, PA and Carolyn A. Hertzog and her fiancé, Shareef Mays, of Laureldale, PA; two sisters, Diane Frangiose of Sea Isle City, NJ and Mary Atkins and her husband, James, of Schwenksville, PA; 9 grandchildren: Madelyn, Cory, Nicola, Jordan, Mark Richard Jr., Mary, Allie, Reefy, and Natalia; one great-grandson, Caiden; two nephews, Jimmy and Alex Atkins; and one niece and goddaughter, Carla Frangiose. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Hertzog. Services and interment will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to The Lung Cancer Research Foundation at 155 E. 55th Street, Suite 6H, New York, NY 10022.
