Charles J. Norbeck Mr. Charles J. Norbeck of Tacony died at the age of 93. He passed away peacefully Sunday October 31st, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Norbeck was born in Phila., PA on March 7, 1917. He was the son of the late William and Jennie (Schneider) Norbeck. He was born and raised on Marsden St. in Tacony and lived there his entire life. He worked as a typist at Disston Saw Works for 50 years. He served in General Patton’s 3rd Army as a Medic in WW II and received the combat Medical Badge. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, four Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Charlie was a member of VFW Post #20, William D. Oxley American Legion Post #133 since 1945 and was very active serving many positions at the American Legion Post. He was also a member of Vogt Seniors. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Ciochetti) Norbeck. Charlie was one of 12 Siblings and is survived by two sisters Marie Bromley-Strunk of South Clinton, IA. and Catherine Weeks. He was a life time member of St. Leo the Great Church in Tacony. Relatives and Friends are invited to his viewing Thursday Evening 7-9 PM and Friday Morning 8:30-9:30 AM at the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home P.C. 6643-45 Torresdale Ave. Phila., PA 19135. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Leo the Great Church on Friday at 10 AM. Interment Magnolia Cemetery Phila., PA.
