Charles F. Sauermelch (Charlie) passed away peacefully Tuesday April 8, 2014 at his home in Audubon, surrounded by family. He was eighty eight years old. Charles was born on May 27, 1925 in Philadelphia, the son of Mary Ann (nee Motz) Sauermelch and Charles F. Sauermelch. He graduated from North East Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Charles served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was stationed on the Island of Guam when his unit crash-landed on Iwo Jima. He was a graduate of Villanova University, and worked as an Electrical Engineer for Westinghouse, and in Electrical and Aerospace Engineering at General Electric until his retirement. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Anne (nee Geraghty). He is the loving father of 12 Children: Charles (Loretta), Mary Frances (Dr. Mark Eisner), Gerard, Joanne Efird, Timothy (Diane), Lorraine (Dr. Steven Shute), Paul (Diane), David, Patricia (John Drach), Barbara (John Sherlock), Eric and the late Andrew. Charles is also survived by 18 grandchildren, as well as two sisters Catherine DePamphilis and Mary Armstrong and several nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. He is predeceased by one brother, Frank Sauermelch, one sister, Bernice Macready and one son Andrew Sauermelch. Charles enjoyed his Grandchildren, birds, tropical fish, flowers, plants, fishing and the beach. Family will receive relatives and friends 9 – 9:50 AM. Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM on Saturday April 12, 2014 – St. Teresa of Avila Church 1260 South Trooper Road Norristown, PA 19403 followed by his interment at Calvary Cemetery.
