Charles (Charlie) Patrick Sweeney, Jr., 77, of Mayfair, passed away on Sunday, April 3rd, 2022, peacefully, at Vitas in Nazareth Hospital. Charlie was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 30, 1944, a son of the late Sara (McLaughlin) Sweeney and Charles P. Sweeney, Sr. He attended St. Anne's grade school and Mercy Tech high school and was a member of St. Anne's Parish before becoming a member of St. Bernard's Parish for most of his adult life. He was a longtime member of St. Leo Knights of Columbus Council #1294 and spent much of his working life at the former Sears warehouse on Adams Avenue. He was the loving husband of the late Rosemarie (Gephart) Sweeney, Father of Charles P. Sweeney, III and Timothy Sweeney. Dear brother of Suzanne Walters, Joe (Diane), Robert (Diann), Mary Ann Womelsdorf (James), Winifred Gilmore, James (Eileen), Patrick (Linda) and uncle of many nieces and nephews. A public Visitation will be held at 8:45 AM and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, both on Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Bernard Church 7341 Cottage St. (at Bleigh) in Philadelphia, PA 19136. His interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery (Levick St. between Dittman St. and Cottage St.) In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard Church.
