Charles P. Vance, Sr.

Charles P. Vance, Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Dallas, GA. He was 89. Mr. Vance was a resident of Georgia and was formerly of Eagleville, PA and Port St. Lucie, FL. He worked as a maintenance man for the former GE Co. in King of Prussia, PA. Charles was a former member of Visitation B.V.M. Church in Trooper, PA. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW Post 840 and the St. Valentine Club, all in Bridgeport, PA. Mr. Vance was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Navy Armed Guard.Born in Excelsior, West Virginia on June 30, 1920, he was a son of the late James and Mary (DePalma) Vance. He was the husband of the late Edith (Hallman) Vance. Surviving are his loving family including three sons, the Rev. Msgr. Charles P. Vance, Jr., pastor of St. Philip Neri Church of Lafayette Hill, PA, Peter Vance of Limerick, PA and James Vance of Port St. Lucie, FL; three daughters, Christine M. Stafford of Dallas, GA, Susan Serafin and her husband, Frank of Powder Springs, GA and Edith Vance of Las Cruces, New Mexico; five grandchildren: Eric, Heather, Brian, Scott & Stefanie; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Anthony; a brother, Augustine Avanzato of New Castle, Delaware; a sister, Frances Bucci of Plymouth Meeting, PA; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patsy A. "Pat" Vance, Sr. Relatives & friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at St. Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444 on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11:00am. Officiating will be his son, the Rev. Msgr. Charles P. Vance, Jr., Pastor. His viewing will be Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:50am, at the church. Interment in St. Augustine Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charles' memory to St. Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444.
