Charles Raymond Wilson, Jr., "Chal," 81, of Glenside, PA, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 11, 1943, to Charles and Helen Wilson, Charlie lived a life marked by unwavering dedication to his country and boundless love for his family and friends.
Charlie’s commitment to service began early. A member of the first graduating class of Bishop McDevitt High School in Glenside (1961), he went on to serve his nation with distinction. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962, earning the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross for his bravery. His military career continued with over 20 years of honorable service in the United States Air Force, culminating in his retirement as a Chief Master Sergeant (E9), the highest enlisted rank.
Beyond his military achievements, Charlie enjoyed a successful career with Bell Telephone, where "he enjoyed many hours of overtime", allowing him to retire comfortably at age 59. He remained actively involved in his community, cherishing the many class reunions he attended over the years.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Mari-Ann; his loving daughters, Trish Wilson (Bert), Tara Amons (Jim), and Charlie Wilson (Karina); and his cherished granddaughters, Alex, Molly, and Janey, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Wilson (Dolores), James Wilson (Suzann), and William Wilson (Terri); numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charlie’s tough exterior belied a heart of immense kindness and generosity. His dedication to his country, coupled with his love for his family and friends, will be forever remembered. His legacy of strength, service, and unwavering devotion will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Queen of Peace Church, 820 North Hills Ave., Ardsley, PA. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
