Daniel “Dan” Martin Heffernan, 84, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at The Meadows at Shannondell in Audubon, PA.
Born on August 8, 1939, to the late Daniel and Mary (Lawless) Heffernan, Dan grew up in the Bronx, NY, with his parents and dear sister, the late Elizabeth “Betty” Wiener. He proudly served in the United States Marines Corp and earned a BA in English from St. John’s University in Queens, NY. He had a successful career in computer programming, becoming an independent consultant after working many years at Banker’s Trust Company. As a consultant, he had long-term relationships with a number of large firms including Time Life, HBO, Seagram’s, Merrill Lynch, Phillip Morris, and Deutsche Bank.
In his youth, Daniel contemplated becoming a religious brother and spent his first year of high school as a novitiate at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey. However, he was destined for the vocation of husband and father, marrying Cathy, the love of his life, in 1962. He considered building a family with Cathy and raising their six children the crowning achievements of his life.
In addition to time with his family, Daniel enjoyed reading a good book, spending a day at the beach, and debating important topics. He was devoted to his Catholic faith, attending daily Mass most of his life. He also had great affection for the United States of America and the enduring values of independence and self-determination. He will be remembered for his love of God, love of family, and love of country.
Daniel is survived by his loving family including his wife of 61 years, Catherine “Cathy” Theresa (O’Connor) Heffernan; daughters Eileen (Dennis) Kraus, Deirdre (Chris) Yeager, Maureen (Chris) Clark, Siobhan (Michael) Bedford, and son Paul (Mai) Heffernan; grandchildren, Michael Kraus, Dennis Kraus, Nathaniel Kraus, Stephen Kraus, Marguerite Kraus, Timothy Kraus, Catherine Kraus, Christian (Kristin) Yeager, Sean Yeager, Colin Yeager, Evan (Kasandra) Yeager, Brian Clark, Megan Clark, Matthew Clark, Andrew Heffernan; and great-granddaughter Gabriella Yeager.
