David Oscar Kerper passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 22, 2023, following a brief illness and hospitalization. He was 66 years old.
David was born in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, on August 25, 1956, to Lawrence Paul “Pat” Sr. and Nancy Kerper (nee Spring) and was the third of four children.
He grew up in and around Springfield Township, Montgomery County, PA, and graduated Springfield Township High School. He had recently moved to Fairview Village, PA, and really loved the old building he was in–it had a full fireplace, exposed beams, and a lot of character.
Dave treasured his friendships and was fiercely loyal to his circle of friends. “He’s my friend” meant something to Dave. He and those friends rode motorcycles, go-karts, dirt bikes, and muscle cars on- and off-road with great enthusiasm.
Fittingly for a motor enthusiast, Dave was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 384 for many years, and he spent time driving everything from school buses to concrete trucks and dump trucks. Dave’s favorite personal hobby was collecting guns–and spending time at the range. He shared this love with his family, often bringing them to spend the day target shooting and having lunch together.
He is survived by his sister Barbara Coleman; brother Charles (Linda); and nieces and nephews Brock, Victoria, Morgan, Madison, and Elisabeth. He was predeceased by his older brother, Lawrence Paul Jr., and brother-in-law Joseph Coleman.
Dave was generous with his time and was a fixture at softball games and school events. He also bestowed thoughtful gifts for holidays and birthdays–a family tradition was to exchange Christmas gifts with him on Christmas Eve so that he and Santa had different days! He took on the role of doting uncle and never looked back.
Time with family meant everything to Dave, and he spent many an afternoon watching movies with family, staying for supper, and just being an integral part of family life. David absolutely loved watching TV, especially classic cartoons like Looney Tunes, although The Three Stooges won hands down for best comedy for him. Action movies were his choice for the movie theater, although he would watch anything the family wanted to.
There were too many lunch outings, movies, and other adventures over the last 30+ years to even begin to list them. Dave’s heart knew no bounds–he was thoughtful and generous to those he loved–and those of us who loved him know that our world is a better place because he was here with us.
Dave’s ashes will be interred privately at Ivy Hill Cemetery. For those wishing to do so, donations in his honor can be made to the Montgomery County SPCA online at https://montgomerycountyspca.org/donate/ or by mail to 19 E Ridge Pike, Box 222, Conshohocken, PA, 19428-0222.
