Donald J. Spitko

March 13, 1939 — April 20, 2020

Donald J. Spitko, age 81 of Trooper, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in East Norriton, PA after a 36 day battle from COVID-19. Born on March 13, 1939; Donald was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Ella (Koresko) Spitko of Bridgeport, PA. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara A. (Caraciolo) Spitko; his five daughters: Christina M. (and Brian) Pecharo, Michele A. (and Frank) Rouco, Tammi L. (and Bruce) King, Melissa K. Spitko, Sharon L. Spitko and one son: Donald J. Spitko Jr. He was “Pop-Pop” to eight grandchildren: Ryan, Tyler, Taylor, Austin, Alexa, Shayna, Ava and Andres. He is also survived by three siblings: Catherine (White), Ronald and Julia Spitko. He was preceded in death by his infant son: Donald A. Spitko. Donald will always be remembered as the “Old Man” who was known to offer a ride to a hitchhiker, fix a flat tire of an unknown stranger, or lend a helping hand to anyone at anytime day or night. He had a generous soul and would either offer you his knowledge on how to fix something or lend you the tools to get the job done… but almost always he’d stop what he was doing right then and there to fix it himself. Even after his retirement from the Philadelphia Electric Company in 1995, Donald was a hard-working man who always put his family first. He was a friend to anyone who needed one. Donald fought a courageous battle against all odds and touched so many lives and hearts along his journey. His strength will be one of many lessons that he will be remembered for. Donald was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps. Donald loved the outdoors and nature. His hobbies included hunting, guns and gold panning. He was an avid WWE wrestling fan. Donald belonged to many clubs including the Gold Prospectors Association of America and National Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Donald was cremated privately out of respect for the family. Since we are unable to honor him with a proper military service at this time, a memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Details to follow. Until then please Stay Home and Stay Safe. #SpitkoStrong
