Doris Loraine Hendrick(September 26, 1943–October 7, 2025)
“Beyond the door, There’s peace, I’m Sure, And I know there’ll be no more. Tears in heaven” – Eric Clapton
Doris Loraine Hendrick, a lifelong resident of Sharon Hill, PA, went to be with her mother, father, and best friend Dee on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 at the age of 82.
She was an only child, born in Philadelphia in 1944 to William and Mary Loraine Meyer Buzard. Her father was a professional artist whom painted many of the works on display in Philadelphia hotels of that era. Doris was married to Thomas J. Hendrick, Jr. She had a daughter Donna and son Thomas III (Tomer). She later divorced and would take opportunities to travel overseas to Europe and spend summer days “down the shore” with her best friend Dolores “Dee” Salerno. Doris worked over 20 years at The Mill Store in Sharon Hill and even traveled to New York City to negotiate fabrics purchasing for the store, a task few women were empowered to do at that time. Later in her career, she worked in customer service at Kohl’s in Springfield, PA. She enjoyed doing lunch with her “Kohls girls.” Doris very much enjoyed reading and was a dedicated fan of Eric Clapton. She was known on the Internet as “Philly Doris” amongst the community of Clapton fans she socialized with and had an incredible collection of his live performances. Fabric was a common thread throughout Doris’ life. She was a talented seamstress and made nearly all of her grandchildren (Lauren and Katie’s) clothing and Halloween costumes when they were young. One of her favorite hobbies was cross stitching and she made countless pieces with thousands of perfect stitches, an art form that demonstrated her patience and commitment.
When it came to family, Doris was the most loyal person you could ever have in your corner. She loved her children (Donna, Tomer), grandchildren (Lauren, Katie) and “grand doggers” (Snoopy, Luna). She was always present and supportive for the most important milestones in life, holidays, and she never missed a birthday – she prided herself on birthday cards arriving on time in the mail.
Doris will always be remembered for throwing her purchase at the cashier at a store in Cape May, NJ when the cashier yelled at her grandchildren who were tapping on the glass windowfront. Also, the way that she always had to have her coffee in the morning before she was willing to do anything. We’ll always remember the time she had a macaroni on her nose and some were witness to the time she dumped an entire bottle of soda on Tomer’s head. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother and “Lolli.” We will miss her every single day. Where words fail, music speaks – her memory lives on in the music of Eric Clapton and in the hearts of her family.
A service will be held for Doris on Saturday, November 1st at 12:30pm in the “Oak” area of Edgewood Memorial Park at 325 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, PA.
