Dr. Marvin Henry Marx

Dr. Marvin Henry Marx passed away peacefully on the morning of February 14, 2022. He was 89 years old. Marvin was born on May 3, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri to Julia and Henry Marx. He grew up in Sappington, Missouri in the house his father built. A straight “A” student, Marvin graduated as salutatorian from Roosevelt High School and went on to study chemistry at Princeton University and medicine at Columbia Medical School. While in medical school, Marvin met the love of his life Carol. They spent 60 loving years together in marriage. During much of that time they lived in an 18th century stone farmhouse on a 30 acre plot in Worcester, Pennsylvania, where they raised not only five children, but cows, horses, dogs, chickens, ducks and bees. Marvin also tended his own tree nursery full of dogwood, birch, and pine. His lifelong love of nature was reflected in his boyhood training as an Eagle Scout, his love of gardening, and outdoor sports like tennis and skiing. He and Carol were avid travelers and visited countries as far away as Russia and Australia, but his favorite trip was white-water rafting down the Colorado River. Marvin practiced urology in Lansdale and at North Penn Hospital for 45 years. He was president of the North Penn Hospital staff and president of Montgomery County Medical Society. He retired in 2000. He loved his work as a physician, but his most cherished moments were time spent with Carol, their children, and grandchildren. One of his great grandchildren—John Marvin Grady—carries on his name. Marvin is survived by members of his loving family including his children Cynthia Burtt, Cedric Marx, Kimberly John, Wendy Jaffe, and Kristine Marx, grandchildren Nadine Grady, Justin Burtt, Anna Burtt, Lindsay John, Chelsea Demerly, Taylor Jaffe, and Aaron Jaffe, and great grandchildren Patrick Grady, John Marvin Grady, Nathan Grady, and Zélie Grady. Relatives and friends are invited to Marvin’s Memorial Service at Brittany Pointe Estates, 1001 South Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA, 19446 on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Visitation is at 1:30 PM. The Memorial Service begins at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marvin’s memory to the Arbor Day Foundation.
