Dylan Hamilton Smith

July 4, 1998 — March 15, 2022

Dylan Hamilton Smith left his friends and family on March 15, 2022. He was 23 years old. Dylan is survived by his parents, David and Suzanne, older brother Roy and wife Emily, and many relatives who, although admittingly biased, believe Dylan to have been one of the kindest souls on earth. Dylan was fittingly born on Independence Day 1998 as he had an independent spirit and brought much joy as the family clown, sometimes unknowingly as when he explained to his brother around the age of four “that’s not lemonade you’re drinking” (“then why was it in the refrigerator?”). Dylan graduated from Radnor High School in 2017 with an anonymous honorable mention at graduation about his Senior Prank that occurred shortly after his father asked “what could you possibly do with $100 worth of ping pong balls?!” His last public appearance was at the local deli counter where after arriving home some might have thought their ham tasted a lot like chicken. The family learned never to look when he would say “Awww, look at Buster”. The family dog was always engaged in something the opposite of cute. It was impossible to spend time with Dylan without laughing. Dylan loved anything on wheels. After mastering the unicycle (while playing the accordion), he moved onto ATV’s (typically only using the two right wheels), then onto the family’s 4-seater side-by-side ATV with a little less luck when he walked home asking if we could help roll it back over for him. He inherited his “tough-luck” uncle’s 2-seater convertible Mercedes which he drove to what his father termed his “too-short gigs” at Rich’s Auto in Norristown and Maserati of the Main Line after earning an Automotive Tech certificate. Many residents witnessed Dylan driving the streets of Radnor with the top down, regardless of the temperature. Dylan also made the acquaintances of a number of State Troopers thanks to the same SLK230. Dylan loved his family, his car, his apartment where he gamed with his friends, and spending time at the family’s property in Upstate NY. Regrettably, Dylan suffered from depression and anxiety. Although he worked hard for many years to overcome those, Dylan lost hope leading him to take his life. The family has opted not to have a memorial service and asks that in lieu of flowers, please help someone in need, as Dylan would have chosen, and be kind to each other.
