Earl Gardiner Russell

October 20, 1924 — June 13, 2017

Earl G. Russell, age 92, of Havertown PA, passed away on June 13, 2017, with his family at his bedside. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of Barbara (Pierucci) for 68 years. He served in World War 2 as a member of the U.S. Army Air Forces, and was named a "Chevalier" in the French Legion of Honor for his role in liberating France. He worked as a structural engineer in Philadelphia, including many years at Day & Zimmerman. He served as a volunteer at numerous organizations, including his church and the Boy Scouts. Additionally, he served for more than 50 years as a member of the board of trustees at Eastern University and Palmer Theological Seminary, St. Davids. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children: Barbara Wells (Jerry), Earl (Bud) Jr. (Carol), Donald (Theresa Conroy), Blaine, and Brenda (Jack Libhart). Other survivors are 2 granddaughters, Kristin Russell and Heather Santamaria (Chris); 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Scott Wells. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 17, at New Hope Christian Church, 551 Paxon Hollow Road, Broomall. Visitation at 10 A.M., Service at 11 A.M. Donations can be made in his memory to Eastern Univ. and/or Palmer Theological Seminary (St. Davids PA).
