Edward Thomas “Tom” Harley passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in King of Prussia, PA. He was 88. Tom graduated with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University, and he also had a Professional Engineer Certification. He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad, and later Conrail, retiring as an Assistant Chief Mechanical Officer. He also was the Senior Vice President for TTX Company in Chicago, IL, and later was a consultant for LTK Engineering Services of Blue Bell, PA. Tom was a member of Valley Forge Presbyterian Church in King of Prussia, a Life Fellow of ASME and the Union League Club of Chicago. He shared his O Scale model railroad skills with many railroad enthusiasts and he enjoyed railroad photography with many of his photographs being published in magazines, calendars and books. Tom served as a Major with the US Army Reserves. Born in Evanston, Illinois on July 18, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Myra (Thomas) Harley. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 11 years, Patricia D. Harley; a son, Brian T. Harley and his wife, Dr. Cynthia Werner of College Station, TX; a daughter, Linda A. Harley of Bryn Mawr, PA; a step-son, Michael T. Pendy and his wife, Justine Sanchez of Crested Butte, CO; two step-daughters, Kathleen M. Ruocco and her husband, John of Deerfield, IL and Jill E. Pendy of Des Moines, IA; 7 grandchildren: Brijet, Sam, Jack, Zoe, Evie, Ruby and Jake; a daughter-in-law, Joan E. Harley of Wayne, PA; a sister, Joyce Behrend and her husband, Jack of Olympia, WA; a nephew, Mark Murphy and a niece, Kathleen Gormally. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary J. (Sharp) Harley, who died in 1996; and a son, Robert E. Harley, who died in 2011. Tom’s Funeral Service will be at the Valley Forge Presbyterian Church, 191 Town Center Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 1:50 pm, at the church. Interment will be private.
