Edward G. Loughlin

Edward G. Loughlin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at his residence in Bridgeport, PA. He was 80 years old and had battled cancer for almost 20 years. Ed had earned a Master’s Degree from Villanova University and spent his entire professional career as a math teacher at Bishop Kenrick HS in Norristown, PA. Edward was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Church in Bridgeport until it closed and merged with Sacred Heart parish, also in Bridgeport. Edward was a deeply religious man. In his younger years he was a chaplain's assistant in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was also a leader for Explorer Post 73. After his years of service, he met and married Henrietta (Smith) Loughlin aka Chris Loughlin, Aunt Chris or Hank who he remained devoted to until her passing in November 1996. After her passing, Edward continued each of the rituals they created together for years to come. He loved traveling, entertaining and sending picture postcards. He routinely could be found hosting “lunch and a movie” or having his family over for supper. Ed Loughlin was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Grace Ann (Stong) Loughlin. He is survived by his brother, Lawrence and his wife, Beatrix (Wolthius) Loughlin, of Audubon, PA and his sister, Patricia Loughlin Gaskin and her husband, Walter, of Rio Rico, AZ. “Uncle Ed” had many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews that absolutely adored him. He will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Edward’s celebration of life beginning with a viewing at Bacchi Funeral Home and Crematory, LTD, 805 DeKalb St. (Rt 202), Bridgeport, PA on Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 5-7 pm. There will also be a viewing on Monday, March 9th from 9:30-10:15am at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St., Swedesburg, PA. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 am and a Christian burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery in King of Prussia, PA.
