Eileen A. Leute, 99, a resident at Shannondell at Valley Forge in Audubon, Pa, died peacefully on May 30,
2025. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Joseph A. and Mary Ellen Conboy Arndt, and was
married for more than 73 years to her loving husband George M. Leute, Jr.
A beloved family matriarch, she is survived by her three children, George M. Leute, III (Ana), Marilyn L. DeLong, and Gregory A.Leute (Bacot), grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter.
Eileen grew up in West Philadelphia and graduated from Mercy Academy. While still a high school
student, she was chosen among a group of talented candidates to participate in PhilCo's "Radarettes"
program, developing cutting-edge aviation communications that contributed to turning the tide of World
War II. She married her teen sweetheart George, then a young Naval Aviator, in 1947, and traveled widely during
his active service, finally settling in Delaware County, PA. Once her children were grown, she completed
her bachelor's degree in foreign Language Education at Temple University, then went on to earn her
Masters. She built a distinguished career as an educator, first at Brookhaven JHS, then at Lansdowne
Alden HS, and finally at Pennwood West HS, where she was selected as District Foreign Language
Coordinator for the William Penn School District
After retiring, George and Eileen worked with Delaware County Community College’s foreign exchange
program to create and lead a program to teach English at five universities in the emerging democracies of
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Eileen was active in diverse community and national activities and organizations, including the American
Association of University Women, L’Alliance Française and Newtown Square’s Chapter of the GFWC
Women’s Club. She loved gardening and traveled with her gardening club friends. She and George
enjoyed playing Bridge, spending time in Cape May Courthouse, NJ and Viera, FL. Throughout her life,
she remained insatiably curious, aspiring, in her words, to learn “at least one new thing each day.” She
relished challenging games such as cryptography, sudoku and “trivia night”.
Eileen was loved and respected by family and friends alike. Ever the educator, she had a gift for teaching
and gently imparting wisdom. She was a woman of deep faith, moral courage, subtle wit, a tenacious
quiet strength, and above all, love and loyalty. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her.
