Elbert William Simon, Jr., 83, of Lafayette Hill, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the beloved son of the late Jean Willa (Peoples) and Elbert William Simon, Sr.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Elbert carried his dedication and precision into his career as an insurance accountant. But beyond numbers, his true passion was found in the rhythmic hum of a train rolling down the tracks. A lifelong enthusiast of Amtrak, Elbert didn’t just admire trains—he studied them, documented their history, and even co-authored Amtrak By the Numbers: A Comprehensive Passenger Car and Motive Power Roster 1971-2011. His love for railways was not just a hobby but a reflection of his appreciation for journeys, both literal and figurative.
Elbert was a man of simplicity and quiet joy, someone who found beauty in the details of life. Those who knew him will remember his unwavering passion, his deep knowledge, and the way he carried himself with gentle wisdom.
He is survived by his nephew, Drew, and nieces, Elise and Julie, who will forever hold his memory close. He now rests alongside with his parents Jean and Elbert, his brother Dick, and his sister Joan, reunited in peace.
Services will be held privately for the family.
