Eleanor Alice Shaheen

Eleanor Alice “Ellie” (Roberts) Shaheen passed away on August 30, 2018. She was 84 years old. Ellie was a resident of Eagleville and worked for 21 years at Ursinus College in Collegeville. After starting in the college Copy Center, she then became the manager of the campus Mailroom. Every year she enjoyed getting to know the students and faculty, keeping in touch with many of them for years. Ellie was born in Bangor, PA, on February 4, 1934. She was the daughter of the late William J. Roberts and Alice A. (Price) Roberts, and the sister of the late Louise Rohrbaugh. Ellie was a 1952 graduate of Bangor High School and a 1956 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, the first in her family to attend college. Surviving are her children: Shelley of Philadelphia, PA; Nancy (Joseph) of Enola, PA; Laurence (Linda) of Pottstown, PA; and Lynne of Collegeville, PA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Lindsay, Casey, Alexa, Eric, Ryleigh, Emily and Nicholas (with whom she shared a birthday). She is also survived by two nieces, Julie Azzalina and Karen Lambert. After retiring from Ursinus College in 1999, Ellie enjoyed spending time with her seven grandchildren. She also enjoyed flower gardening and took great pride in reimagining her back yard into her version of an English cottage flower garden. She loved reading, especially Agatha Christie mysteries and books about WW I and II. Ellie was a history buff and also proud of her Welsh heritage. Last but certainly not least, she was an avid Nittany Lion football fan and was known to sing “Fight on State” to cheer her team on to victory throughout the season. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service to celebrate Ellie’s life on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 2:00-4:00pm. The service will be held in Bomberger Memorial Hall, Ursinus College, Collegeville PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ellie’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA. 19106. www.alz.org
