Elfriede Hudson-Fancher

Elfriede (Muller) Hudson Fancher, born in Erda, Germany on February 28, 1927, died peacefully in her home at Shannondell, Audubon PA on April 30th. She was 94. Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Alton Hudson and her beloved daughter, Heide Hudson Lauck. Survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Roderick McCord Fancher, Jr, and her daughter, Annalie Hudson Minter (George). Elfriede was the beloved Oma to Tyler Lauck and Gillian Wenhold. She also has two step-sons, Marcus (Debbie) and Michael Fancher; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins residing in Germany. She grew up and attended school in Endbach, Germany. After completion of Business College, she began working for the American Military Government, where she worked until 1948 when she came to America as a War Bride. In 1952, she became a naturalized citizen and was proud that she voted in every Presidential election since. She worked for Curtis Publishing Company until she left on maternity leave with her first child, who died during childbirth. She also worked for TV Guide. Elfriede left TV Guide to raise her two daughters until she joined John Wanamaker Department store in King of Prussia where she was an award winning sales person in women’s clothing. That career spanned over thirty years. Always impeccably dressed, she had an incredible sense of fashion, made her own clothes and those of her daughters, as they grew up. Well-travelled and educated she used to say she could see the world map in her head. Visiting each of the 50 United States, Canada, South America, Central America, Eastern Caribbean Islands, all 27 countries in the European Union and Baltic & Scandinavian countries, as well as Russia. Her favorite cities were Paris, San Francisco, Berlin and New York City. She often quoted Saint Augustine, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Rod and Elfriede met on Valentines Day 2007, the day after he moved into Shannondell. They began dating and were married April 10, 2010 and their travelling adventures began. Elfriede bestowed a special gift of friendship to those she met. She will be missed for her style, grace and kindness. There will be a private burial for the family. A memorial service will be planned for friends of Elfriede with her family, at a later date.
