Betty Ann (Elizabeth) Hutchens
Age 88 of Newark, DE passed away at home on Sunday, September 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 9, 1935, in Wilmington, DE. She was a 1953 graduate of St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Wilmington, DE. She was an entrepreneur as she started her own business, dog grooming, in the early 1960’s. She went on to operate the camera and controls at Comcast Cable Company later in life.
Betty Ann had many talents including writing, illustrating spiritual books, and ministering. She was an artist, and her specialty was Arabian horse paintings. She was a world traveler going to places as Rome, Egypt, France, Machu Picchu, Nepal, South Africa, Israel, and she rode a horse across the Sierra Desert. She had even taken three trips to Mongolia for the love of the culture and the people.
She was a Senior Olympic swimmer. Played the violin. She was a horse trainer and had horses racing at Delaware Park. Her favorite breed of horses was the Arabian. They were her passion. Especially her first Arabian named Sheba. There was nothing in the world that she enjoyed more than going on a trail ride by herself or with others.
Surviving is her loving family Dewey (Tom) Hutchens husband 67 years and four children. Betty Jo (Mort) McNally, Patricia Bear, Jackie Hutchens, and Tommy Dean Hutchens. Three grandchildren, Stephanie, Matthew and Amy. Two great grandchildren, Daniel, and Amiyah. Brother, Andrew (Lydia) McKay and her pet cat Sugar. Proceeded in death by her brother Jay McKay.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
