F. Eugene Davis

F. Eugene "Gene" Davis passed away peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2010 at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was 91. Mr. Davis was a long time resident of Gulph Mills, PA. He worked as an advertising executive for over 30 years with the N.W. Ayer Advertising Agency in Philadelphia, PA and New York, retiring in 1987. He had previously held marketing positions with the Foote, Cone and Belding Advertising Agency in Chicago and the Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa. Gene was a member of Christ Church Old Swedes in Swedesburg, PA and the National Association of Mine Warfare.Mr. Davis was a commissioned officer in the US Navy, serving four years of active duty during WW II. He served as a lieutenant aboard the USS Sustain and was awarded six major engagement stars for minesweeping and convoy escort duties in the Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters of Operation. Born in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on August 16, 1919, he was a son of the late Frank E. and Cecelia M. (Smyth) Davis. He spent his early years in Rutland and Windsor, Vermont. He later moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated from John Carroll University.Surviving are his loving family including his wife of 25 years, Sandra Ann (Piermatteo) Davis; three sons, James P. Davis and his wife, Pamela Duda Davis of King of Prussia, PA, Thomas Eugene Davis and his wife, Ethyl of Gilbertsville, PA and Timothy L. Davis and his wife, Kirste of West Chester, PA; two grandchildren, Justin and Kirynn; a brother, Robert Davis of Rockville, MD; two sisters, Marion Ager of Cleveland, OH and Marge Gorbett of Brooksville, FL; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn L. (Golladay) Davis; and two brothers, William and Paul Davis.Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service at Christ Church Old Swedes, 740 River Road, Swedesburg, PA 19405 on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10:00am. Officiating will be the Rev. James Evans, Interim Rector. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Christ Church Old Swedes, 740 River Road, Swedesburg, PA 19405.
