Frances A. Burk

Frances A. Burk (nee Brophy) passed away peacefully on Friday June 19, 2009, at Bryn Mawr Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 3, 1917 to the late Francis & Alice (McGready) Brophy of Philadelphia, PA, Frances was a 1936 graduate of Lansdowne High School. In October 1937, she married James A. Burk, Jr. with whom she shared 37 years of marriage, until his death in December 1974. Frances and James lovingly raised four children: Barbara McCarthy (Thomas) of Penn Wynne; Maureen Burk of King of Prussia; James A. Burk III (Isabelle) of West Chester and Kevin Burk of Jeffersonville. A devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, she was dearly loved by grandchildren Thomas McCarthy, Kelly McCarthy, Barbara Wood (James), Jennifer Kirkpatrick (Jack), Mandy Allerton (Chris), Shannon Klinger (Arlen), Meghan Stacey (John), Brian Burk and great-grandchildren Sean Kirkpatrick, Daniel & Alyssa Wood, Mackenzi Burk, Lorelai, William & Charlotte Klinger and Isabelle Stacey. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Charles and Stanley Brophy. She is survived by a beloved sister, Rosemary Becky of Claymont, DE, and also many nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives & friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at St. Augustine R.C. Church, 464 Ford St., Bridgeport, PA on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 10:00am. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert J. Murray. Her viewing is Wednesday morning from 9 to 9:50am, at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to her grandnephew Michael L. Masciantonio's Memorial Scholarship Fund at Neumann College, c/o Institutional Advancement, One Neumann Drive, Aston, PA 19014 - 1298.
