Francis A. "Frank" "Mousey" Veramonti

Francis A. Veramonti, lovingly known as Frank and affectionately known as "Mousey," passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the age of 85.

To know Frank was to know belly laughs, good food, long stories, and a seat at the table.

Frank was raised in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, by his parents, Generoso and Julia Veramonti, alongside his brother, Merrill. He grew up in a town filled with church bells, corner bars, old Italian men debating everything under the sun, and neighbors who looked out for one another. The values he learned there – hard work, loyalty, faith, and the belief that family came first – never left him.

As a young man, Frank proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Intrepid, traveling throughout the Mediterranean and running the ship's barber shop. Frank loved the camaraderie of Navy life and liked to say he came back with great friends and a little extra money from the card table.

When his service ended, Frank returned home and became a barber. His chair was never just a place for a haircut. It was a place where local news traveled fast, laughs were exchanged freely, and nobody was ever rushed out the door. Long before he owned restaurants, Frank had already discovered what would become the theme of his life: bringing people together.

If barbering taught Frank that people would gather around a good conversation, the restaurant business taught him they would gather around a good meal, too. Alongside his brother, Merrill, Frank owned and operated The Inn, a neighborhood favorite known for its cheesesteaks, crinkle-cut fries, and familiar faces. Family members still smile remembering how chef Momo quietly let Frank’s daughters help themselves to a few fries without anyone noticing.

Soon after, Frank opened Meryl's Restaurant – a tribute to both his daughter and brother – with his best friend, Salvatore "Sal" Bello. The restaurant's private dining room became known as the Tracy Room, a warm space where families gathered to celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. Like his daughter Tracy, the room had a way of making people feel cared for.

In restaurants, Frank created spaces where life's milestones unfolded – first dates, anniversaries, baptisms, reunions, and ordinary nights under piano tunes and double scotches that became stories people would tell for years to come. You could find him moving from table to table, holding court, and making sure everyone felt welcome. Long before hospitality became a buzzword, it was simply who he was.

Later, Frank and Sal opened Peppers, continuing the partnership and friendship that defined much of their working lives. Together they spent decades doing what they loved until they retired side by side.

Frank shared the great love story of his life with his wife, Noreen. Together they built a world centered on family, friendship, travel, nature, and unwavering devotion to one another. Frank often said that if you were going to get married, you should marry your best friend. In Noreen, he found exactly that. Through every adventure and ordinary day in between, they remained partners, companions, and each other's favorite person.

Frank spent much of his life preserving the Italian traditions that meant so much to him. A longtime member of the Sons of Italy, he was a familiar presence in the annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast procession, accompanying the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary through the streets for many years. For those who knew him, it was hard to imagine the feast without him.

Frank believed in staying active and embracing life. He enjoyed getting lost on long walks, bocce, golf, gardening, and anything that got him outdoors. He celebrated life through food and loved growing it, cooking it, talking about it, sharing it, and of course eating it.

Above all else, Frank loved being a Dad to “his girls” Tracy and Meryl, and a Pop-Pop to Juliana, Jaxson, and Henry. They were the lights of his life. He remained a constant presence, making several trips each year to spend time with them. He loved cheering Jax on from the sidelines, especially during baseball and football season, and never missed a chance to compare notes on the perfect pickleball serve or golf swing. He took immense pride in Juliana's dedication to horseback riding, jumped at every opportunity to support her in a race, and spoke often about the remarkable young woman she was becoming. He treasured being Henry's favorite partner in mischief. The two shared a special love of gardening, growing hot peppers, and talking about whatever was blooming next. Quite simply, nothing made him prouder than watching his children and grandchildren grow – and he was never shy to tell you about it.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Noreen; his daughters, Tracy Veramonti and Meryl Veramonti; his son-in-law, Steven Gonzales; his grandchildren, Juliana Gonzales, Jaxson Gonzales, and Henry Harvey-Veramonti; his niece, Kimmy Dodds, her husband Doug Dodds, and their sons John and Julian; his nephew-in-law, Bob Sheehan; and the daughters of his late niece Shelly Sheehan, Nora and Chelsea, whose children, Ivy and Rhys lovingly knew him as Uncle Franny.

Waiting to welcome Frank home were his parents, Julia and Generoso Veramonti; his brothers, Merrill Veramonti and Eugene Veramonti; and his niece, Shelly Sheehan.
