Francis John Korkus, Sr.

Francis John Korkus, Sr. passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. He was 78. Mr. Korkus was a resident of Jeffersonville, PA. He was a 1955 graduate of Saint Matthews High School in Conshohocken, PA. Francis was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Norristown, where he was a member of the contemporary group and the church choir. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council Post 3327 and also a member of the Polish-American Club in Phoenixville, PA. Francis was employed by the Budd Company/Polychem Corporation for 47 years, working as a Senior Project Engineer. He was an avid fisherman, hunter (still holding the record of most spike bucks at the Sunset Village Rod and Gun Club) and boater, enjoying many days on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos and many nights around the campfire amusing family and friends with jokes and stories. He was a coach for the West Norriton Little League and President for a short time. The Christmas decorations at his home garnered much attention and for several years earned him first place honors in the township contest. Born in Bridgeport, PA on January 28, 1937, he was a son of the late George and Kathryn (Shutika) Korkus. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 57 years, Anne (Giannone) Korkus; a daughter, Rebecca (John) Miller; a son, Frank; granddaughters: Janelle (Robert) Hevener, Devin Miller, Amanda, Juline and Frances Korkus; a great-granddaughter, Olivia; brothers, Joseph (Mary) Korkus and George (Annette) Korkus; sisters: Theresa (late Joseph) Mann, Constance Henzler and Barbara (Robert) Smith; and many nephews and nieces. Relatives & friends are invited to attend Francis' Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 600 Hamilton St., Norristown, PA on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00am. Officiating is the Rev. James Goerner, pastor. His viewings will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm, at The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA; also Thursday morning from 10 to 10:45 am, at the church. Interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Francis' memory to The Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or online at www. alz.org and/or St. Francis of Assisi Church, 600 Hamilton St., Norristown, PA 19401.
