George Allan Dash, III resident of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA passed away on November 30, 2023 at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Dash, the son of the late George Allan Dash, Jr., and Ruth Marks Dash, was born, raised and spent most of his life in Philadelphia and its suburbs. He graduated from the William Penn Charter School and the University of Pennsylvania; following the latter, he attended an advertising and journalism school in preparation for a career in marketing communications.
Over the years, Mr. Dash created advertisements, radio and television commercials, press releases and newsletters for a number of Philadelphia area advertising and public relations firms. His favorite job was at N. W. Ayer & Son, the oldest agency in America, where he created ads for national accounts such as TV Guide, The U.S. Army Recruiting Command and Bell Telephone.
While marketing communication was his livelihood, music – especially choral music -was Mr. Dash’s love. He sang in the University of Pennsylvania glee club, then went on to sing in various choirs and choruses, and was the co-founder of the Fenimore Chorale, a semi-professional group. When he wasn’t singing, he was writing and arranging vocal music, or listening to his huge collection of recorded choral music. A member of the University Glee Club of Philadelphia, he was its 1999-2000 president.
In 1977, Mr. Dash married Georgia (Gigi) R. Phelps, a nurse who specialized in hospital infection control and prevention. Through the years, her expertise became more and more recognized, until, in 2002, she was elected the president of APIC, her professional association. When she retired in 2016 as Director of Infection Prevention for the Cape Cod Healthcare System, APIC presented her with its highest award.
The Dashes traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Far East, but were anglophiles at heart. In 1983 they bought a thatched cottage built in 1675 in a small Dorset village. Every year they vacationed at the cottage; in 1990 they moved to England to live and work for a year. They always felt that the friendships they made and the experiences they had in England enriched their lives immeasurably.
Mr. Dash leaves behind his beloved Gigi and his offspring from a prior marriage: Geoffrey Clayton Dash and Nancy Dash, as well as three grandsons: Geoffrey, Griffon and Corson.
