George M. Betz

George M. Betz passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in King of Prussia, PA. He was 87. Mr. Betz worked as a systems analyst for the Department of the Treasury for the State of New Jersey, until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Upper Merion Baptist Church in King of Prussia, PA. George was also a life member of the VFW Post 7878 in King of Prussia, PA, where he was the current Quartermaster; and a member of the VFW Post 3022 in Lawrence, NJ, where he was a past Commander. Mr. Betz was a US Navy veteran of WW II, serving from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre of Operations aboard PT Boat 527.Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 30, 1926, he was a son of the late Barton Q. and Ella M. (Long) Betz. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 63 years, Elma L. (Louis) Betz; three daughters: Rebecca E. Betz and her husband, David Festa, of Riverside, NJ, Melissa Betz-Cichowicz and her husband, David J., of King of Prussia, PA and Jennifer R. Betz of Lawrenceville, NJ; three grandchildren: Francis, Douglas & Cori; a great-grandson, Matthew; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Barton Betz; and a sister, Elizabeth Flood. Relatives and friends are invited to George's Funeral Service at The Bacchi Funeral Home and Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 10:00 am. Officiating will be the Rev. Kathryn Eagles. His viewings will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8:00 pm and Thursday from 9 to 9:50 am, both at the funeral home.
