George “Bud” T. Childs (age 88) passed away on August 6, 2022. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 11, 1934, to the late Bert and Mary “Mae” (Mongo) Childs, also of Philadelphia, PA. Bud was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia and following his graduation from Olney High School entered the Marines where he served honorably in both the U.S. and Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his service with the Marines he attended RETs Electronic Institute and Montgomery County Community College. He distinguished himself during nearly 35 years of service at GE through his work in prototype manufacturing for the aerospace division. Bud was an avid Philadelphia sports fan beginning before age 10 with his love for the Philadelpha Athletics and extended to all the Philadelphia Sports Teams and especially the Phillies and Eagles. Bud loved sport himself as well as being out of doors. He was committed to daily activities and often walked 3 or more miles each day as well as playing tennis and pickleball with friends. He read everything including newspapers and all types of books often reading three to four books at a time even into his final few weeks despite vision that was clouded by his illness. Bud loved being with family and none more so than his nearly one year old great granddaughter Lily, who was clearly the new love of his life. Bud is survived by his wife, Marjorie Lynn Childs; his two sons, George T. Jr “Tom” and David W. (Suzanne); three granddaughters, Amanda I. Guldin (Aaron), Ashley M. Childs, Alexandra R. Childs; great-granddaughter, Lily M. Guldin; sister, Margaret “Peg” Schubert (Bill); brother, John A. “Jack” Childs; first wife and mother of the children, Carole Dieciedue (Tony). Bud was predeceased by his daughter Janette M. Childs. Visitation with family on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 10am will precede a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life held at St. Matthew UMC of Valley Forge, 600 Walker Rd., Wayne, PA at 11 am.
