George F. Mardi, Sr.

George F. Mardi, Sr. passed away peacefully at his residence in Jeffersonville, PA on Saturday, December 21, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. He was 92 years old. George was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bridgeport, PA and the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. George was born and raised in Bridgeport, PA. He attended Bridgeport High School, class of 1950, where he played many sports but truly excelled in basketball. George worked for 20+ years as a delivery driver for Wonderbread and when he retired, he went to work in the lab at William H. Rorer Pharmaceuticals. George truly loved sports. He enjoyed playing tennis in his adult life, coached Bridgeport Little League for many years, and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. Most importantly, George loved spending his time with his family.

Born on February 22, 1932, he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (nee Vuotto) Mardi.

Surviving is his loving family including his wife, Beverly (nee Cook) Mardi; two sons, George F. Mardi, Jr. and John J. Mardi (Lisa); two daughters, Georgiana J. Gillis (Walter) and Marilynn R. Leddy (Dennis); 7 grandchildren: Karen Gillis, Brian Gillis, Megan Rowan (Gary), Rosalyee Mardi, Andrew Mardi (Olivia), Austin Mardi, and Kaitlyn Mardi; two great grandchildren, Jace Rowan and Dalton Mardi; a brother, Richard J. Mardi; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

George is preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Marie (nee Slobodzian) Mardi, who passed away in 1974; a brother, Joseph Mardi; 4 sisters, Margaret Mardi, Rita Russo, Marie Puco, and Joann Zimmerman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend George’s viewing at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St. Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 9am to 10:15am; with his Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30am. Interment will be private for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church at the address above.
