George Preston Hooper, 79, son of the late P. Preston and Mary (Healy) Hooper, passed away peacefully on March 25 at Parkhouse Providence Pointe in Royersford. He was born December 1, 1931 in Bryn Mawr, PA, and worked on area estates and farms prior to entering the Navy in 1951. He served in the Navy from 1951-1955 as a machinist on the USS Hank. After the service, he worked at the Weyerhaeuser paper mill and the Allan Wood Steel Plant before becoming a chef. He went on to work at the Jem Restaurant, Valley Forge Tavern, and West Chester Inn. George leaves a daughter, Marianne Hooper Furman; son-in-law, David Furman; granddaughters: Laura Jeanne, Sarah, and Elizabeth Furman; and grandson, Nicholas Furman and his wife, Laura Faith. He was pre-deceased by a brother, James C. Hooper. He also leaves many faithful friends and caregivers at Parkhouse, his home for the past four years. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406 on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:00am. Friends may call Friday morning from 9 to 9:50am, at the church. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkhouse Providence Pointe Residents Fund, 1600 Black Rock Road, Royersford, PA 19468.
