Gerald F. (Jerry) King, 90, of Bensalem, PA passed away on Monday, July 20, 2021, at Juniper Village, Bensalem, PA. Gerald was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 6, 1931. He was the beloved husband of Thelma (Thomas) King. They were married for 45 years before her passing in 2013, they were married in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Jerry and Thelma shared a truly beautiful marriage and partnership; they were two peas in a pod. Jerry loved nothing more than traveling with his wife and spending time together with her as well as with family and friends. Prior to Covid, Jerry remained active in his gym, continued to golf with friends, and was committed to his church. Jerry never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or holiday; always remembering others with love and thoughtfulness. Jerry held a lifelong love of music and a passion for all sports but especially for his Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. Jerry was a very generous man; he and Thelma treated their niece and nephew as their own and took them on many trips & adventures over the years. The joy their Christmas visits brought is particularly memorable. Jerry and Thelma traveled to spend time with friends & family over the years, exploring many parts of the United States as well as countries & islands all over the world; they loved cruises and had an appreciation of nature and the great outdoors. Jerry loved the simple pleasures of walking with his wife on the beach at Cape May in September, taking in the sights of the lighthouse, visiting nearby casinos, and lingering over lovely meals. Jerry had a wonderful sense of humor; he loved to tease and could take a joke as well as he could give one. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force as an A1C in the Korean War. He earned the Korean Svc Medal, U.N. Svc Medal, Natl Def Svc Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Air Crew Member Badge. He worked as a newspaper man at the Philadelphia Inquirer. Gerald is survived by his loving nephew and godson Gene McGuire, Gene’s wife Kim McGuire, and their children whom Jerry treated as his grandchildren, Shea, Allison, Drew, and Chase McGuire. Gerald is also survived by his loving niece Molly (McGuire) Spanarkel and her husband, Jerry Spanarkel. Jerry is also survived by his dear friends Peggy and Frank Oddo and their daughter Heather Gunkel; all of whom treated Jerry as their own and he them. Jerry will be missed by all those with whom he came in contact, remembered for his generosity, kindness, and humor. Public Visitation will be held Saturday September 11, 2021, from 10:15 – 11:15 AM and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, both a St. Ephrem Church 5400 Hulmeville Rd. Bensalem, PA 19020. His interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem, PA In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Services have been entrusted to the Joseph J.. McGoldrick Funeral Home and condolences may be made at www.mcgoldrickfh.com .
