Gerald D. "Bridgeport Jerry" Schantz passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Trooper, PA. He was 71. Mr. Schantz was formerly of Bridgeport, PA. He worked as a machinist for the former Synthane Taylor Fiber Co. in Audubon, PA. He was a social member of the St. Valentines Club and the former VFW Post 840, both in Bridgeport, PA. Jerry coached for the Bridgeport Little League. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. Born in Norristown, PA on March 27, 1940, he was a son of the late Newton R. Schantz Sr. and Muriel M. (Airey) Schantz. Surviving is his loving family including his companion of 27 years, Diane Anderson; two sons, Darin R. Schantz and his companion, Beth of Pottstown, PA and Troy D. Schantz and his wife, Lynn of Bridgeport, PA; three daughters, Robyn L. Singh and her husband, Gopi of Annoplis, MD, Ruthi E. Shehan and her husband, James of Limerick, PA and Tracy L. Schantz of Limerick, PA; a step-son, William B. Anderson and his wife, Kathleen of Limerick, PA; a step-daughter, Tammy L. Anderson of Trooper, PA; a daughter-in-law, Liz Schantz of Eagleville, PA; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Ruth E. Schantz of Bridgeport, PA; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard R., Kenneth P. and Newton R. Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service at The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 Dekalb St. (Rt. 202) Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:00am. Jerry viewings will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8pm and also Thursday morning from 9 to 9:50am, both at the funeral home. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, West Norriton Twp., PA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's memory to Montgomery Home Care & Hospice, 25 W. Fornance St., Norristown, PA 19401.
