Gerarda Visco Acchione

April 18, 1938 — February 3, 2022

Gerarda Visco Acchione, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr. Gerarda was a resident of Gulph Mills, PA, formerly of Philadelphia. Along with her husband, she founded Joseph Acchione Construction Company. She was a member of St. Thomas of Villanova Church and a former member of Mother of Divine Providence Church. She was also a member of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, and officer of the John B. Acchione Lodge 311. Additionally, she was a member of the Upper Merion Newcomers Club and a Clerk of Election of Gulph 2 Ward. Gerarda enjoyed opera, particularly Andrea Bocelli who she had the pleasure of seeing perform. She loved to watch soccer, especially when her grandchildren were playing. Gerarda was a cooking aficionado who delighted in preparing Christmas Eve Dinner for her family, as well as introducing her Italian family to our tradition of Thanksgiving. Gerarda was born in San Donato Val di Comino, Lazio, Italy on April 18, 1938. Her earliest memories were of the Nazi occupation of her town. She frequently shared her experience of aiding her brother and all of the male children to ensure their survival throughout the occupation. After the war, as a young woman, Gerarda often accompanied her mother to the fountain to collect water for her family. It was on one of these occasions when she noticed a handsome young man on his way to the quarry. As she recounted numerous times to family and friends, she realized that he was the man she would marry. Her future husband, Joseph, arrived in America with his brother Cesidio to forge his future. Gerarda and Joseph’s courtship was built upon love letters. In fact, Joseph asked Gerarda to marry him in one of these letters. He then returned to San Donato where they married. Joseph returned to America alone to prepare a home for them. Daughter of the late Luigi Visco and Donata Antonellis; and wife of the late Joseph Acchione.
