Gina Matticola Dwyer, age 55, of Wilmette, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024. Beloved wife of Chris Dwyer. Loving mother of Colin and Meghan Dwyer. Dear Daughter to Frank and Marion Matticola, nee Boyle. Dear sister of Frank Matticola, Tricia Matticola Girlanda, Erin Matticola Vieira, and Bridget Matticola. And sister-in-law to Anhdao Matticola, Raffaelle Girlanda and Paulo Vieira, and Beloved Aunt to Cosmo, Sai, Amadeus, Cristiano, Massimo, Francisco and Raffaele.
Born outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 26, 1968, Gina was kind gentle, compassionate, loving and she cherished nothing more than being with her family and friends. Gina grew up in Jenkintown, PA; graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1986 and from Providence College in 1990. GIna and Chris met at Providence in 1987 and were married at Immaculate Conception in Jenkintown in 1994.
Gina was passionate about teaching and taught at Crow Island School, Winnetka, IL, which was where Colin and Meghan attended elementary school. A lover of nature, Gina could often be found admiring the gardens at the Chicago Botanic Garden, reading a book or relaxing with friends at the beach, or visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo. Gina was very creative, she liked to make photo books of flowers and trees, and she joined a writing group of other cancer survivors who became dear friends. Gina volunteered at the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook, IL. She loved to travel and spend time at the beach in Sea Isle City, NJ with family.
